What Is an Implant Overdenture?

Chew and eat more naturally and enjoy life
to the maximum again!

We get this question a lot at the Belleville Denture Clinic. An overdenture is a complete or partial denture that attaches to an underlying dental implant. Overdentures provide much improved function and retention when compared to conventional dentures. They drastically increase your maximum bite force and enable you to eat all the foods that you love.

Benefits Of Overdentures

  • Removal of upper denture palate and increased taste sensation
  • Improved functionality
  • Improved retention
  • Increased bite force

Dental Implants are root replacements and are the best way to secure a denture. Once the implant is placed it will integrate into your jaw bone and provide a stable and reliable anchor on which your denture can be attached.

Studies show that dental implants preserve jaw bone levels over time. This is extremely important because the jaw bone is the foundation for your dentures. Eating, speech and laughter can now be performed with confidence, as implants are the closest thing to natural teeth!

Historically, dental implants have a high clinical success rate. Patients who have chosen dental implants often remark how similar the implant feels to their own natural teeth.

The Denture Implant Process

There are quite a few different options when it comes to having denture implants. In most cases, the implants are placed in the mouth and covered under the soft tissue. After 3-4 months, the implants will become strong enough to attach the denture to them. During this time, you will still be able to wear your old dentures or a new set during the healing process. After the 3-4 month period, our Denturist will then attach the denture to the implants by taking a new impression and relining the denture.
